I started to read "Jesus, Liberation, and The Biblical Jubilee-Image for Ethics and Christology." Sharon H Ringe, who is New Testament prof. of Wesley Seminary, wrote this book. I think her main concern is the liberation of woman. Which means that she is feminist.
Actually, I have a preconception about liberation theologies such as feminist theology, Latin theology, min-joong theology, and the black theology that those theologies have dangerous political potentials.
I do not deny that proclaiming liberation of those who are oppressed, but the proclaiming liberation can call another violence to those who were oppressor. I believe that revenge is not justice and can't be true liberation. I always worry about tension between liberation and revenge.
Also, I think the liberation ideology can be a political tool of certain groups. Prof. Kang, Nam-soon also claiming political discussion of feminist. I do not totally disagree against her assertion about the political discussion of feminist. However, there is a tension between the purity and the political purpose (it need to be explained later.).
Nevertheless, I want to be a fervent supporter of feminist, because I believe that the liberation of women is the one of important issues to restore the Kingdom of God.
By the way, the proclaiming liberation has tensions. How did Jesus deal them in his time? I believe that the ultimate purpose of liberation is the restoration of God's creation. Although I do not like Marx, I like his idea about labor. Basically, all labors of humankind make economical, political, and social discrimination. Consequently, all labors produce a surplus value. However, the surplus value is not distributed fairly. Besides, its unfairness is deepening by those who are having more than others. This unfairness is reached out to whole world. When I track downed theologically about the origin of labor, finally, I saw the original sin. The story of Genesis proclaims not only God’s sovereignty, but also the wholeness of Creation “Shalom”. The original sin opposed to God’s sovereignty, and broke the wholeness of creation “Shalom”. It broke the relationship between God and human beings and God’s creation and human beings. Its consequences are the death and labor. The death brought all fears to us, and the labor brought all discriminations to us. My friend, Hyewon, who is studying at Garrett Theological Seminary, gave me good her insight. She said that the disappearing name of ideological theologies such as feminist, liberation, black, and min-joong theologies is all and end-all of the genuine liberation. These ideological theologies were come from their discrimination contexts. Therefore, the genuine liberation means no more discrimination in the world. It fulfills God’s justice. And the fufilling God's justice is heading to reconciliation with whole creation. However, there is still a problem to connect between idea and realities. I need to ask “How?” As I mentioned, there are tensions. How did Jesus deal them? And consequences? . . . . . I believe that this upcoming semester will be fun…☺
When I thougt about my uprootedness, My feeling was too dreadful to do anything. However, when I knew that my uprootedness is God's calling, it was no more sorrow. When I am thinking about my uprootedness, my feeling is excited to expect new God's plan for me. My God works through the wilderness. God calls me to be the marginality of marginality. I am answering the call.
